Rambling on and on and on about farming, food and astronomy. Astronomy? Yep. Farming and astronomy go together like garlic and basil, tomatoes and peppers, ice cream and bacon.

Roses. Oh lord, the roses! We’ve had night time temps routinely fall in the low 20s, at least one significant snow fall, and this rose bush just keeps on going! We’ve been living in this house for 13 years now, and for 12 of those 13 years this bush has been a stringy, half dead mess that would occasionally produce an insipid, pale, sickly looking bud. But this year it just went crazy. From early spring until now mid-November, it has been absolutely spectacular.

For years we debated on digging the thing up and getting rid of it, but sheer laziness prevailed and we let it go. Why, after a dozen years, did it suddenly launch itself into this frenzy of new growth and bloom, even rsisting the frosts that have killed off just about everything around the house except the sheltered herb garden? I have no idea. I’m just enjoying every day of it.
