This could be a very important discovery, and additional study is important. Unfortunately, it only seems to ‘deactivate’ e.coli that is on the surface of the meat, so it is likely it probably wouldn’t work on ground forms of meat like hamburger. But it has a lot of potential. It’s cheap, probably easy to implement on a large scale, and won’t scare consumers the way irradiation does.
