We’ve had some of the oddest weather that I’ve ever seen, and I’m mumble-mumble years old, which is basically as old as some rocks in my back yard, so that’s a long, long time.
So you all know about the drought. It’s been on the news almost every night for the last two or three weeks. But now, at least in this part of Wisconsin, we’ve been getting rain. Holy cow, have we been getting rain! And we are enormously grateful for it. It’s probably saved dozens of local farmers from serious financial problems.
There are still problems, though. For some it’s too late, the crops will never recover. And the rain has been scattered. Some parts of the state, like here (about 30 miles south of Green Bay) have received almost 4 inches of rain in the last week. But other parts of the state have received little or nothing.
Was talking to one fellow yesterday, a truck driver making a delivery at the school. It was pounding down rain yesterday afternoon, and we were standing in the garage just looking at it for a while. He’d just got off the phone with his boss and back at the terminal it was sunny and dry. Just 35 miles away. Go figure…
